SCCC has two choruses that rehearse and perform separately and collaboratively.

Dependent on the number of children in each group, the choruses may rehearse together or break into smaller rehearsal settings. High school and experienced upper middle school aged students are encouraged to take leadership roles with younger children and with creative projects.

The ‘Prep Chorus’ is intended for younger and less experienced singers. There is no audition necessary to join the Preparatory Chorus. This chorus meets for a shorter period of time and performs less complex music as well as some pieces with the 'Advanced Chorus'. Generally singers are in grades 1-4*

(*prior experience in SCCC and an audition may advance grade 4 students to the Advanced Chorus)

Prep Chorus rehearsals are Tuesdays from 5:30-6:30PM

Singers in the ‘Advanced Chorus’ complete a placement audition at one of the first three rehearsals of the session. This audition is used predominantly to hear vocal range and the ability to match pitch. The Advanced Chorus rehearses for a longer period of time and performs more difficult music as well as some pieces with the 'Prep Chorus'. Voluntary solos, a capella singing and smaller ensembles as well as singing in multiple languages are part of the repertoire of the Advanced Chorus.

Advanced Chorus rehearsals are Tuesdays from 5:30-7:00pm

A word about auditions:

Singers who want to join the Advanced Chorus take part in a 'gentle' audition process that determines the young singer's ability to match pitch through vocal exercises and 'warm ups.' Singers do not need to prepare a song. This process allows us to place singers in the appropriate voice section and level.

If a singer is not yet ready to join the Advanced Chorus, a preparatory chorus experience is recommended to help develop musicianship skills.

We are an organization that believes that every child can sing. We also realize that children's voices develop at different times and sometimes they are not yet ready to join a choir. Our audition process is designed to make children feel comfortable to demonstrate their best singing and musicianship. If the young singer can match and hold pitch, blend with other singers and stay in rhythm he/she will do well in our audition.
